How to ask Unitley
What to ask Unitley in plain words, by task, from checking games to pricing parlays and tracking bets, with tips for better answers.
Ask Unitley the way you would ask a friend who follows the NFL. There is no special syntax: your AI picks the tools it needs. If it answers without using Unitley, start your question with "Using Unitley,".
Every example below is short on purpose. Each one is followed by what Unitley does with it.
Plain words or a prompt
Plain words work everywhere. Some apps also show Unitley's prompts, ready-made requests for a few common jobs, but none of them does anything plain words can't.
Claude Code
Plain words work. Unitley's prompts are optional shortcuts: type / and look for /unitley:weekly-moneyline-value (MCP) and the others, or run /mcp__unitley__bankroll-check month with arguments after a space. See Running a prompt.
claude.ai and Claude Desktop
Make sure Unitley is on in the chat's connector menu (the + button), then ask in plain words. Claude supports Unitley's prompts too, but plain words do the same.
ChatGPT
Choose Unitley from the tools menu next to the message box, then ask in plain words. ChatGPT uses Unitley's tools but not its prompts, so there are no slash commands here.
Other agents
Cursor, Hermes and other MCP clients take plain words too. Hermes lists Unitley's tools as mcp_unitley_ and the tool name, but you never need to type those. Your own code on the REST API calls each tool directly, so there is nothing to phrase.
The web analyst
Type your question on the Analyst page. It always uses Unitley's tools, so there is no need to start with "Using Unitley,", and it has no prompts or slash commands. To log the bets on a slip, attach its screenshot. See Bet slips.
Browse games, odds and news
- What's on this week's NFL slate? The games in the current NFL week, with kickoff times in US Eastern time.
- Odds for the Chiefs' next game The moneyline, spread and total at your sportsbook, the best price across the books Unitley tracks, the no-vig fair price, and how old each price is.
- Who's on the Lions' injury report? The team's full list, with each player's status.
- Weather for the Bills game The forecast over the game's window, or a note that the roof is closed. Forecasts cover games up to 7 days out.
Analyze a bet
- Is Colts +2.5 worth it? Your AI reads the price, the no-vig line, both injury reports and the weather, makes its own estimate, and checks it with
calc_ev. It says so when the bet has no edge. - I give the Bills 45% at +150. Is that +EV? Runs your chance through
calc_evfor the edge and the expected value. When your chance is well above the market's, it warns you. - How much should I bet on it? Sizes the stake with
calc_kelly_stake, from your bankroll, risk profile and limits. This needs a bankroll: set one in Settings → Bankroll. - No-vig line for −150 / +130 Takes the bookmaker's margin out of both sides with
calc_no_vig_odds, and gives each side's fair chance and price.
Parlays
- Price a parlay: Chiefs ML, Lions −3.5, Bills ML Finds each leg's current price and prices the parlay with
calc_parlay: the combined odds and the chance they imply. - Odds of a 3-leg parlay at −110 each Prices it with
calc_parlay, with no games needed. - Is it +EV if each leg is 55%? A follow-up: adds your chances to the legs, for the parlay's combined chance and expected value.
- Price a parlay: Bills ML and Rams under 54.5 Any mix of moneylines, spreads and totals, from different games.
Save and track
Unitley saves nothing until you ask. Saving and logging need write access: a token or a sign-in that allows it. See Scopes.
- Save that as a pick Saves the last recommendation as a card on the Picks page, with Unitley's own numbers. See Picks.
- Log a $10 bet on Lions −3 at −110 Adds it to the Bet Log, linked to the game, and warns you when it goes past your max stake or a loss limit.
- Settle my Bills bet as a win Marks it won and updates your bankroll. Moneyline, spread and total bets linked to a game settle on their own, so this is for props, parlays and unlinked bets. The web analyst can't settle bets: do it on the Bet Log page.
- How's my bankroll doing? Your bankroll, profit and ROI, your open bets, and the room left under your loss limits.
Learn
These answers come from Unitley's knowledge notes, through search_knowledge.
- Explain no-vig odds What the bookmaker's margin is and how taking it out gives a fair price. See No-vig odds.
- What's closing line value? How your price compares with the last price before kickoff, and why it says more than a few results.
- How does Kelly sizing work? How a stake follows from your edge and the price, and why Unitley uses only a fraction of it. See Kelly and stake caps.
- Why do 3 and 7 matter in NFL spreads? NFL key numbers: the margins games end on most, and what a half point around them is worth.
Tips for better answers
- Name the game and the bet. "Lions −3 at −110" gets a sharper answer than "the Lions game".
- Give your own win chance. The edge and the stake then rest on your estimate, not your AI's.
- Say "show the math". Your AI then lays out each number with the tool it came from.
- Check inactives yourself. Game-day inactives are announced about 90 minutes before kickoff, and the injury report doesn't have them.
- Ask how old a price is. Lines move. Every price comes with its age, and a stale one is worth checking at your sportsbook.
What it can't do yet
- Sports other than the NFL. Unitley covers the NFL only for now.
- Player props far from kickoff. Props load only in the 24 hours before kickoff. Ask earlier and the answer says when to come back.
- Game-day inactives. nflverse updates the injury report about twice a day, and it has no game-day inactives. See Injuries.
- Prices from anywhere else. Odds come only from Unitley's tools, never from your AI's web research or from Jev.
- Big parlays, or a stake on a same-game parlay. A parlay takes 2 to 25 legs. Legs on the same game get a warning, and Unitley suggests no stake for them, since their combined chance is unreliable.
